Despite Loss and Addiction, Grant Cardone Says One Book Helped Him Reach His Full Potential

Grant Cardone Event

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 16, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Entrepreneur and real estate investor Grant Cardone doesn't believe most people are living up to their potential. He says he spent years confronting fear and loss before finding answers that set him on a path of success in the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard.

"You have to believe in a bigger potential than you have right now. This is what all successful people do," Cardone said, speaking at an event in Los Angeles. He says it took him decades and a string of personal losses to reach that belief.

Cardone described growing up in Lake Charles, Louisiana and losing his father at age 10. "I was looking for a mentor my whole life," he told the audience. He said the messages he received early in his life, like being told to "be careful," taught him to back away from opportunities rather than embrace them.

After developing a drug addiction in his early teens and later checking into a treatment center, Cardone said he left treatment with his self-esteem gone and no clear direction. He'd been told that staying off drugs was the ceiling of what he could expect from himself, advice he would summarily reject.

At 25, he was given a copy of Dianetics. He said it reframed how he understood the experiences shaping his decisions and showed him how accumulated losses were steering his choices.

He credits its principles with fueling the biggest financial leap of his career. "The first time I had a real spike financially, more than 30 years ago, I was doing the techniques in Dianetics," Cardone said. "I went from nothing, in an industry where no one knew me, to the top 1% of the entire field."

"The moment I stopped blaming everyone else and took responsibility for my life, I realized I could actually fix it," he said. "Don't quit looking for what works for you. Once you find it, double down on it."
